Early 10 Year Anniversary Getaway
Dennis and I needed to get away together. Like...REALLY needed to get away together. I was at the point of almost strangling one of my children (do we need to guess which one? LOL) and Dennis was PAST DONE with his work situation. So, we decided to plan our 10 year anniversary trip a month early. July is crazy for us, so usually do something in June anyways. We had planned on going to Vegas for a few days, but it didn't end up working out, so we headed to Ross Bridge Resort in Birmingham, which is one of our most favorite places to get away to!
We headed out Thursday around lunchtime and took the kids to Deb's house. We went and had lunch at Pei Wei in Brentwood. YUM! Then, we hit I-65 and headed south! As soon as checked in, we hit the golf course. There was nobody else playing, so we had the course to ourselves. Dennis played 11 holes and we got to watch the sunset. Beautiful. Just beautiful. There are few things more peaceful than being on a golf course, alone, watching the sun go down.
We ate dinner in the clubhouse that night and afterwards, I got to take a bubble bath for the first time since before I had kids!!!! I forgot how good it felt!
Friday, we layed out by the pool and just relaxed all day long. Dennis tried to play golf that afternoon, but there was some lightning that had caused them to pull everyone off of the course, so he was unable to play.
Friday night, we headed to the Summit and did some walking around and shopping and then we had dinner at Flemings. It was my first time to eat there and it was FABULOUS!! Delicious! We had so much fun. Oh, and did I mention that the temperature dropped to around 75 degrees and it felt WONDERFUL outside! Finally! A break from the HEAT!
We stopped and treated ourselves to some dessert-to-go from the Cheesecake Factory as well.
Saturday, we got up and layed by the pool again for a while. Once again, Dennis tried to play golf that afternoon, but was turned down AGAIN due to lightning! Bummer! We got ready and went back to the Summit and shopped around on the other side. (that place is HUGE) Our plan was to have dinner at the Village Tavern, which is where we ate last year for our anniversary. Well...as we were shopping around, the electricity went out in the WHOLE area. Crazy!!!! So, the Summit shut down, along with all of the restaurants in the area. We're still not sure what caused the power outage, because it was a BEA-U-TI-FUL night again, but it was out EVERYWHERE. So, we were a little disappointed because we were looking so forward to celebrating our anniversary there, but then we realized...it's just a restaurant. There are lots of other places to eat! We drove to a couple of different places that we had heard of, but they were packed, so at a little past 9:00, we ended up at Ruth's Chris! YUM! I was definitely NOT disappointed that we ended up there!! My favorite!! They sat us at this very private, cozy table in our own little room and it was WONDERFUL! We will never forget our precious waiter, Mike D. He was a much older black man and he treated us so wonderfully. He was one of a kind. When we told him it was our 10 year anniversary this year, he went and brought us back 2 homemade CD's with blues and jazz music on them. We have no clue where he got them...maybe they were both his...nonetheless, it was one of the nicest things anyone has done for us and we will cherish it forever! It turned out to be a very special evening.
Sunday morning, we got up and headed home. Boo!!!
We are so thankful that we have 2 wonderful mom's that took such great care of our kiddos while we were gone. Thank you Nana and Grammy!!!! The kids had a blast while we were away!!! We are so blessed!!!!
